Last night I was taking Rip out for his nightly soak in the sink when I noticed he only had one eye open...I put him in to soak and after splashing around for a bit I noticed he opened his eye again so I figured he was just being weird or something so he went back in his tank for the night. Now this morning I went to turn his lights on and change his water and I noticed he only had one eye open again I took him out and looked closely at it and it looks a watery substance over his eye. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas what it could be? We just cleaned his tank yesterday and switched him to a carpet bottom and added some new climbing vines. Could it possibly be he just poked his eye a little exploring his new stuff?

if its like a milky color my female chaos has the same thing and iv also asked this question and everybody said its cardiac so hes most likely blind or has limited vision in that eye as long as hes eating fine theres not need to worry, but my female has been this way for 8 months and its not bothering her

You might want to try some dilute salt water washes in case something got in there and irritated it. We used the corner of a clean handerkerchief (same as we've used on the kids and grandkids) to kind of "fish" around to see if there's something stuck in the eye to cause the problem and then flush it out with the salt water. You can alos use human eye drops. To keep from being mauled while yu're doing this, we wrap our dragons in a clean towel to help keep the legs and claws under control. Good luck-hope it's nothing major. As Ace said, if it's a milky white film on the cornea it could be a cataract.

Thanks so much for the info...his eye is not milky white at all , when its open it looks pretty normal, just slightly irritated. I will have to try flushing it out tonight.. you said human eye drops are ok...would that be like visine? or are you talking about eye drops for eye infections? Thanks again for the info...I hope it turns out just something irritating his eye and not anything worse!

If its a foreign object like dust or carpet particle then a saline solution (for eyes or contact lenses) would be fine, visne would also work in a pinch although it much pricerier and does not lend itself to spraying in a stream as well as saline solution does. When we got Pooka she had eco earth in her eye that caused an eye infection we eventaully had to treat it with medicated antibiotic eyedrops but that was under the intructions from our vet.

Yeah, I'd just use whatever I had around the house. If it appears infected you can use any old "pink-eye" medicine you may have around, but if it's just irritated I'd use home-made saline solution or purchased saline, if you prefer. Now that you have a reptile NEVER throw your old human medicines away! Never know when they might help your herp!

Thanks again for all the info...its appears that I am being an over paranoid mom (as usual lol) and when I got home from work today he had both eyes open and appeared fine...so who knows...I'll keep an eye on it for a few days and if it seems to be acting up still I'll try flushing it and if it still doesn't clear up then I guess a trip to the vet will be in order!
