First off, thank you for welcoming me! I'm thrilled to be here. Ziggy's humidity won't stay up, is there any other way to keep it up other than misting, and getting a fogger? Would live plants help? I want a fogger, I just don't have an extra $45.00 to spend right now! I spray good, and it jusmps up to 80% then in about 3 hours it back down to 50%. So I'm spraying every few hours. As some of you know I'm going out of town, so I have to get it fixed soon! PLEASE HELP!!!!
thanx,Rachel

Using a natural substrate that you can "wet" down is tremendously helpful, but using live plants in containers with soil works if you don't have the substrate. Choose plants that are on the "accepted" non-toxic plant lists and that like "wet" feet so that you can keep them thoroughly wet. If you use fairly warm water wen you water them, you will immediately generate some beneficial humidity. You might check www.4littlepets.com I bought my last fogger for $20.00, but I also use a "human" ultrasonic humidfier from Walgreens, also $20-25 and I pipe it into my viv. Depending on the configuration of your set-up you can also sit it on top and use flexible hose to direct the mist into your set-up. the tank lasts for about 14 hrs and I turn it on first thing in the morning and off at night before I go to bed and then refill it in the morning.

I went to Lowes to day and got him a plant, we have the substrate in there and I can't tell if the plant helped yet, it's only been 20 min. I looked at human humidifiers today, Walmart has one that is waterless, for 15.00. Would that do the trick or should I just go ahead and pay 40.00 for a fogger?

Glad I could be of help! Please tell your son that the webcam is now operational again, thanks to a very helpful (and patient) young man named Edward at the Toshiba webcam support center. Lights go off at 7:30pm and kick on again at 6am Central time.

He saw it Today, and he liked it alot!!!! Ziggy's humidity is now up to 70% with the fogger. Is that ok, or is it still to low?

70% is wonderful. You have to kind of walk a thin line between high humidity and mold and mildew! When I built the big viv, I purchased a small vivarium fan to move the air around. It stays on day and night and helps blow the warm air from the CE down further into the viv and ventilate the entire thing to keep the air fresh. I keep my fogger on a cheap Walmart timer so that it fogs for 2 hrs. and kicks off for 1. Depending on the size of your enclosure and tank you may have to decrease that. A fogger can use A LOT of water each day. It's amazing! And if you read the fine print, they really recommend a maximum of 8 hr. use daily. You can really soak your viv after a few days of running ti 24/7. Where are u going for vacation? Somewhere exciting I hope!

We are going to Texas, I have family there that my children have never met. 5 generations to be exact. We will go to the beach in Galvaston, go to Nasa, the museums and alot of other things. Your right about it using alot of water, for vacation I'll set it for every two hours execept at night like you said. I had it go off last night and the humidity stayed the same. Now he stays hid in his new plant! I'm moving it today so I can see him!! The cage is about 5ft.long x 3ft tall

Well, I think you have your humidity problem solved. Houston and Galveston are beautiful this time of year. Hope you have a wonderful visit. 5 generations all otgether at one time is an amazing achievement. Treasure the moment!

I went and got another timer that can have multiple setting, for the fogger. I took new photos of him shedding. I can't figure out how to put them on this site, so I'll put them on repticzone later. We are going to have an all female 5 generation photo made while we are there. I dread the 17 hour drive though!

Dragosmom I noticed you said you got a fan for your set up and I would like to add that in most papers there is a spot where you can buy cheap computer parts from obsolete systems.... people can get a very cheap power supply and a couple fans , you can pick the size that fits your needs. Plus with the different plug types you can add all sorts of funky display lights to the enclosure too.

Daremo, I read of a couple of people who used that exact thing for their viv's. It's what made me look for a fan for a reptile enclosure. Since I am "electrically" challenged, I thougt my dragons would be safer if I ordered a complete set-up and eschewed the experimental set-ups and subsequent dragon electrocutions that would most certainly follow. LOL
