Yes it needs something to climb on. They like more height than width. Also make sure there is a pool in the cage where your dragon can swim and soak. It must cover its entire body and atleast half of its tail. You can use real branches for them to climb on,but be sure to clean it in really hot water. We have 4 water dragons and a brown basilisk housed together. Our cage is 6'4x3'2x3'2. Here is a photo of it. Also, here is a great sire for you to read up on water dragons.http://www.icomm.ca/dragon/ Congrats on getting a water dragon!

Welcome to the community you came to the right place for info on water dragons. Please check out the links section and read all the reference material you can. Tricias site has some must-know info on water dragon care. My dragons favorite decorations are both wild collected sticks. I was walking through a close by creek bed and grabbed a few dried out stick for use. Brought these home and wittled them to the right length and removed sharp edges. After that I soaked them in a 5 gallon bucket with a cap or two of bleach in it for 20 minutes then rinsed them well. Tossed both in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes and after they cooled added them to the cage. I have had no problesm with insects emerging from them or from mold (bleach usually kills the mold and heat the bugs) I have heard many use one method or the other but I am overkill when it comes to sanitizing things (maybe it's because I only do it every 30-45 days ) Best of luck in your search BTW I also use wild collected flat stones and do the same process on them, although cooling time is significantly longer.
