Ok I know a few of you here on the forum use silk worms in your dragons diets. How do they rate with other feeder insects? Are they good for the Dragons? Are they easy to care for from arrival till feeding (I'm not interested in breeding them) and do your dragons seem to like them? (as we all know dragons can be picky eaters) I just wanted some ideas here as I don't think my Pooka is gonna be content with Crix all her life. Thanks

yes silkies have a lot of nutriention Perseus seems to like them more than Cronus, And they both have to think about it for a while before they eat them. I think that is because they don't move very fast that does make it nice if you need to catch one that got loose. I hand feed the girls as much as they will eat then put some bugs in big deep dishes they can get in and out of but the bugs can't, I just can't let them go hungry for a min I have been told that with a new food it is best to let them get a bit on the hungry side as they are more apt to eat something new be less picky

Ouch! I'm glad you found that site DaremoAlpha it looked to be a pretty decent one with some selection. Hopefully he likes silkies You may want to go to the links board and share your feeder site address with our other Canadian members as it seems some of the feeders are a bit hjard to come by up there.

Silkies may be the perfect meal. Except they are crazy expensive and a variety is always good. I give my Beardies 1-3 silkies a day depending on how pathetic they look when they are begging for more. On that note I am attempting to raise my own. I will let you know how that goes.

describe "the hard way " a bit more would you... I am thinking of trying to do a breeder stock for Awol too and anything you know that I might be able to use is greatly appreciated.

The hard way is you get some small silkworms and food feed them till they grow up and put cut up paper towel tubes with them ( I have a screen thingy that silkies to go makes for the worms to be on that way the poo falls threw into a catlitter pan.) Looks like it would be easy to make its just a soft screen like you get at a craft place They make cocoons there then become moths and "do it" to be polite and lay eggs you put the eggs in the refridgerator for a few weeks and then take them out that as far as I am. Here is the link to where I got the idea's from www.pclaunch.com/~kayton/silk.htm

Well to update this thread I too have have small worms grow to big and cocoon, turn to moths and I have about 200-300 eggs currently which I am keeping watch over right now for color changing.
I just keep my worms intrays and every couple days I tilt the trays and the poop rolls away from the worms where Ican scoop it out, this way I have a zero % loss of food rate from parts falling through the screens when it gets small. So far so good as long as I keep on top of cleaning out the poop hahaha
