It disturbs me when your tortoise/turtle mod ReedsDragons is asking me how to take care of his sulcata tortoise. Shouldn't moderators know the more about their "field" than regular members? If some one asks an important question how is sapposed to answer?

We all do our best but there are so many different species no one can be an expert in them all. We try our best to find the answers to everyone's questions but we are all on the forums to learn and share knowledge.

I agree a person does not have to be an expert in order to answer a question or moderate a board... I work another forum as well and I know I have answered questions on there about beardies, Uros, geckcos etc and I have never had any of them... I simply look for the answer to the question asked and post what I find and of course suggest other places that the answer could be found... No one is all knowing and that section may not be that moderator's forte but they are I am sure doing the best they can...

It disturbs me when your tortoise/turtle mod ReedsDragons is asking me how to take care of his sulcata tortoise. Shouldn't moderators know the more about their "field" than regular members? If some one asks an important question how is sapposed to answer? To be blunt: As I have stated before this forum was made first and foremost as a Water Dragon board with a few sub topics for other species. We have added the other boards such as Turtles/Tortoises, Other Lizards, and Ampibians as venues that our members can use to discuss "other" pets they keep aside from water dragons. Reed is appointed mod for the simple fact that he is the only one of the mods we had become available with ANY kind of turtle/tortoise experience, and interest in learning more. Of course there may have been one or two others volunteers to wanted to handle that board but they were deficient in some of the other criteria to become mods (lack of posts, lack of maturity etc) I can appreciate that you feel a bit uneasy asking advice about a turtle and having a question thrown back at you by the supposed resident expert, thats normal. However Graceful Dragons has never made a claim that sulcata tortoises were a familiar creature to us. Sorry if it was inferred, thanks for posting your concerns it always better to have them aired.

I understand where you are coming from Wizsh1, but it is difficult for us too. Although my critters are a CWD, BD, Leo's & frogs, I have a HUGE interest in Iggy's, Frilly's, Monitors & many others (including Turtles!!) I don't have hands on experience with these creatures, but I do research them and know a little. Even with the critters that I have, I am still learning & need advise from those that have experienced problems that I haven't had to deal with. Try to think how "stupid" I feel being the Mod for Iggy's with Elizabeth here!!!! We are all here to help eachother & our "kids"!

Zekey is right, the moderators don't know everything about every species.

I am just here as back up!! As are we all Bottom line is we have no "authorities" here. The mods are in place to keep things civil, organized, and make sure some one gets at least 1 answer if at all possible. We are all basically a bunch of reptile owners shareing and socializing with other reptile owners. We just have a larger concentration of Water Dragon Owners here
