Is this for outside? If so then definitely YES you should use a harness. You should always have them on a harness when taking them out in case they get scared and freak out. If you are in the house than it's probably not neccesary. You should be ok. If your wd is a baby then you should bring them into a smaller room with you (like the bathroom). Make sure there is no cracks (like a vent or radiator) that then can get into. If they are older and bigger than it's not neccesary.

a leash sounds like a good idea. Last summer I got a kids swimming pool and with wood and plastic made it high enough they cant jump out. LOL learned that one quick when Perseus jump on the edge of the pool, thank goodness she had to stop and look at me and laugh so I had time to catch her.

Some of the more experienced owners may have good thoughts on this subject. I beleive it would not be wise to take a dragon for a walk as they become skittish in the sunlight outside. I would suggest maybe taking them out to a empty pool like illustrated earlier in this thread and letting them play in that with the leash on them as an added security measure and not the ONLY security measure. Just my thoughst though.

I wasn't going to take her for walks outside, I was going to walk her around the house inside.

I wasn't going to take her for walks outside, I was going to walk her around the house inside. Thats fine I'm sure. I just wanted to make sure new water dragon owners did not take this thread as a liscense to let there dragons run free outside as long as they were on a lease. Beleive me, if a dragon gets skittish outside he/she is gonna wiggle right out of that harness and take a mad dash. I just wanted to make sure new owners know this. Of course there is an exception to the rules in most cases and I'm sure a few members of this board have had dragons who would sit on a shoulder and let the owner walk the neighbor with them there, please don't risk it if your unaware of how a dragon can act outside. Thanks just wanted to keep that lear

So true Pooka When I first got Perseus I had them outside sunning in a kids wading pool. It was high enough Cronus couldn't get out, well Perseus should could. She took a leap and was sitting on the edge. Lucky for me she had to stop turn around and laugh at me so I had the time to catvh her before she could be gone

I take both of mine out in the sun. Ike is a big mature male and he is really laid back, i dont usually need the leash for him, although even with trimmed claws i still prefer to use a gardening glove to hold him as he can get wiggly! Zoe is our young female and definitely more skittish in the light, so i take her for short quiet walks around the block once in a while, always on the leash, and i am always really careful, but she has learned to tuck herself into the crook of my arm when she gets scared. Ike can go practically anywhere with me, he particularly likes the beach when there arent too many other people there.
