Hey all, I was bathing Pooka in the sink last night for her soak time and when I looked in the water after a minute or two of her soaking I seen there was some urate in there which is usual as she often uses the bathroom in the sink during soak time. However, this time I noticed the urate had a thicker consistency almost like (pardon the comparison) boiled egg whites you would see in egg drop soup from a chinese restraunt. I read through my books and they don't say much about urates at all aside from they are often passed at the same time as feces. Do any of you other owners know if this is a sign of anything? I possibly thought maybe too much calcium supplement or dehydration. I would appreciate any thoughts you can share with me about this one.

My 3 guys urates are so thick I can actually scoop them up with the fish net when I clean the poop and chitin out of the pool. I think it's pretty normal. Mine have always been that way (18 + mos.)

Thanks for the description Dragosmom, that helps alot in compareing it to what I am seeing. Sounds maybe like Pooka urates had been to thin in the past then maybe... This is on the edge of scoopable with a fish net. I just worry about dehydration as I cannot seem to get the temps right in my new cage, although I am getting really close at this point. The cage is at about 81 degrees in the coolest part and 95 at the closest point to the lamp, which seems a bit hot to me so I worry about Pooka getting enough moisture for her kidneys to work well.

Seems I heard if you pinch the skin on your dragon and it doesn't smooth out shortly thats a good indecation of dehydration

Kiley, can you raise your light or heat source slightly to reduce your temps a little? On my other viv, I made a metal "collar" to raise the CE just a little so that my temps topped out at 88F. Sometimes repositioning the lights just a little will help.
I am having the opposite problem right now. My alarm went off night before last because the bottom of the viv was under 65F. I put a larger wattage heater in the pool and turned up the house thermostat a little and it didn't get below 68 last night.
