Hi all, Pooka is pretty much donw with her shed at this point. There are two items of small concern to me though. One of her legs has not shed and there is no noticebale ridge of skin or noticeable splitting, the only reason I am thinking it is not shed at this point is that it has the duller brown color of her skin right before it shed and does not match the color of the other leg. With no ridge I have no starting point to help work the skin off. Is this something I should disreagrd and it will "split" when her legs gets thick enough? Also there is a section (tip) of her tail that has not shed, the scales seems lots thicker at this pont and seem a bit rolled up. Since it has been nearly a week since the shed started should I start helping her work that off while soaking her? How long it too long when it comes to leaving unshed bits alone?

For the tail I would rub it while she soaks you can lose tail ends fairly easily. Cronus lost at least 3 inches most likely more from her tail before I got her and anoher inch or two after. It was to late to save. It broke off and bled thank goodness for the oldfashion stick it in flour to stop bleeding thing my stepmom taught me. Cronus and Perseus shed in patches you will see nice green where it has come off and brown dull where it hasn't, same as Pooka. It doesn't give them any trouble and eventually comes off. This is just a guess but I think the skin drys when it is ready to shed hence the dull color, starts to itch so they rub it off. So my logic says where it is dull but not separated it just hasn't dryed enough to shed yet. I would keep an eye on it paticularly areas around the actual leg where it could eventually constrict and harm the area, ie leg, toes spikes tail ends.

Just to add to wdm, AWOL's shedding can last for over 2 weeks too as he has never once gone through just a total shed instead of a patchwork like shed he does all the time.
Now that I have upped the size of his swimming area again, he soaks even more, sitting with just his head out enough to let me know he is watching ......everything hehehe.

Cronus does seem to be in perpetual shed but she gains between 10 and 25 grams a month so I guess it isn't really a surprizing thing. Hopefully one day I will get to see her all green rather than green/brown patchy lookin

Ditto for mine (except Drago who grows VERY slowly). Avanyu right now looks pitiful-he shed down his spikes but there is dull grayish skin every where else! It took a full month to shed completely last time and within 2 weeks he started again! I also put them in the tub in warmer than usual water and lightly exfoliate them with my fingers. Seems to help. I am a little concerned about one of Avanyu's nuchal spikes. Still has not shed from 2 times ago, but it is still green underneath so I have left it alone. It may take Pooka another week or so to get started on the leg.
