Hi I am a newbie I guess you could say.. I got my waterdragons knowing absolutly nothing about the reptiles. I know I know.. you all are cringing and probably hate ppl like me. But just to let you know that now that I do have them I am dedicated to learning and becoming a great Dragon Mommy! But I am afraid I need a lil bit of help on my way! Now for my questions,... Is mouth rot contagious? If I were to try the peroxide.. how often should I do it?

mouth rot is from an infection. I have heard peroxiside is a biy strong for dragons. The picture of Crouns is how bad mouth rot can get I have to say if you think it is mouthrot get to a vet as I know you are doing. Trica's site has a page on mouth rot you can check out. here is the link www.icomm.ca/dragon/mouthrot.htm

Well. The only reason I even thought of Mouthrot to begin with is that the guy at the petstore said more then likely that is what it was. and told me to use peroxide, so I did it. I will admit I was dumb and should have never listened to a word one of those ppl even said. But anyway, I did it... and then a few days later I noticed that his lil mouth looked like it was getting scabby. ( also, to mention.. it was not like that at all before I used peroxide.) so then another person told me that WD's have a layer of dead skin along their lips anyway, and more then likely the peroxide started to eat this dead skin away. so of course I never tried the peroxide again!!! I seen Cronus's pics, and they are soo sad!! I am so happy to see how much better she is doing! But Blue's mouth never looked like that. No matter what it is Blue is going to the Vet on Weds and we will get this all cleared up and taken care of asap! I feel like a total Dumb*** because I really feel bad that I got my WD's not knowing what a WD needs and wants are. And now look... I made one of them sick! AAW! But now that I have them I will not give them up and try all I can to learn how to be a good dragon mommy!I wanted to Thank for your help and support!

Don't feel dumb, I know I have done dumb stuff. The fact that Cronus survived my nerotic inept bumbling amazes me We do the best we can. I didn't have a clue what a waterdragon looked like when I got Cronus. Someone was giving her away and she looked so scrawny and miscared for I had to take her and boy did I end up with a handful, but I'm very happy I have her and Perseus. And thank goodness for thes list groups ect ect. Here's my most freaked insidant with Cronus, She was shedding and bulged out her eyes they looked like veiny califlower!!! talk about freak I was on the list typin like mad "My babies eyes are falling out!!!" LOL well they told me they do that to stretch the skin. Here is me thinking oh my I blinded my poor little one.

I was actually looking for a snake when I was shown water dragons by my wife trying to streer me away from snakes hehehe but at the time I was not really prepared for a reptile and when I did get my tank ready they were gone... I am so lucky I was able to have them flown out to me from Ontario.
