Hiya Everyone! =)) Ok.. How do I know what is a good size of things to feed Puff & Blue.... I seen the post on crickets and kinda have a feel for what size crickets I should feed em. But like other worms.. earthworms for example... they just seem so big to be feeding my babies. I am terrified of choking issues! Not only do I wonder about the size of each insect but how do I know they are getting enough? or if I am feeding them too much? There always seems to be crickets in their home, so they must not be too hungry, or I would think the crickets wouldnt be there. This is what I feed per day as of right now..
about 10 mealworms (give or take a few)But Puff just eats them all... lil guy (Blue) doesnt get any. so we hand feed him, as long as he eats 3 I am ok with it giving he hasnt been feeling well. I always look into their home and make sure to see crickets in there, and if I see 2-3 I dont put any in there, because of the nibbling they can do. But how do I know what is a good amount and right size of foods?

1/2 the width of the head and no longer than the head is the way do figure food. earthworms you just cut up ya yuck but then I cut the legs and wings off crickets lol I dont think you have to worry about them eatting to much and you should not leave bugs in the cage unless you have them in an excape proof dish. They will chew on the dragons while they sleep. You're doin good

WDM your answer has me questioning here hehehe I feed my Dragon fuzzies and they are almost double the length of his head and he deals with no problem. In fact these days he will take 3-4 of them in one sitting and about an hour or so later be looking for his worms too. I myself always based my feeding for him off the size of his belly and his head. 1/2 as wide is good and try to stick with no longer than the head while he was younger. Once he got around 12 inches give or take I started him on the smallest pinkies the store had and now I am getting ready to increase him up to hoppers as fuzzies seem to be getting to small for him. Worms... just stick to smaller ones or first wash and squeeze the guts out of them and cut them down, it is messy but makes for a cleaner meal for the babies

I personally think the 1/2 the width of their head rule is kind of for hatchlings and juvies. I think they eat better with smaller food sources. Drago was still eating 1/2" crix when he was over 1 yr. old! I worried a lot about impaction from something too large not digesting properly, but by 12-14 months I think most of them are ready for larger food sources. My daughter's 3 yr. old CWD eats whole, live mice and it is a small dragon for an adult!

Hi Mommy of 2 dragons, I feed my juvie, Pooka, anywhere from 17-20 crickets a day lately and thats cuz I cut her off at 20 (she is just a bottomless pit these days) However I will point out that I use food items that are about 1/3 the width of her head and no longer. She does not eat mealworms very often and if she does they are usually only a bit longer then her head and she chews them upa few times. Pooka eats so well because we hand pluck the rear legs (pinch them actually) so they cannot get away and offer them to her in a escape proof (at that point) dish. She will put donw 10-12 per feeding 2 times a day this way. You way wanna get some tiny crickets and gutload them and offer blue crickets in this manner when Puff is not around. Pooka went through some illness and stress both when we got her and after a vet visit for parasties and would only eat 2 or 3 meal items a day (meal item being a cricket or mealworm of the appropriate size) so do not stress to hard on 3 mealworms and 1 or 2 crickets for blue. Hope some of this info helps you.
