I have just got a new water dragon! ;D I got him from Chicago Reptile House. He is about 3 years old and is very healthy. Just today (the day i got him) he ate 3 cockroaches. The guy at the store said that cockroaches are the best food for them. Has anyone else heard that? I haven't thought of a name yet, does anyone have any ideas?

Hi! Congrats on your new dragon! I can't remember where but I have heard that cockroaches are good for dragons too. The more you can vary the diet the better. As for names... Gremlin, Shadow, Attila, Khan, Achilles, Eli, Taiko, Ryu, Mushu,....

Crix, roaches, locusts, grasshoppers, superworms, fuzzy mice, silkworms, horworms., butter worms. At age 3 your CWD can eat any of the above. Continue to dust every other feeding and at age three you can feed every other day. You should limit the mice to one per week (high in fat content) Post a pic-I'd love to see your dragon!

Glad to see you jumped back on the wagon after loseing zippy. A 3 year old water dragon should be quite a handful Do you know if its a male or female? I noticed you reference it as a him but make no call as to wther or not you knew it was male or female? Roaches are an excellent feed source just remeber to vary it up with other feeders and gutload anything you feed to the dragon. At 3 years old feeder fish and mice can also be included as part of the diet. Dragosmom outlines some great feeding practices for older dragons in her post. Great to see you back on the boards and I also look forward to seeing some pics of the new arrival.

Here are a few pics of my new water dragon recently named Rex. His favorite place in the reptarium is his vine.

Either you have really big hands or my dragon AWOL is just too big hehehe AWOL is only 2 years old and appears to be really close to that size already. Maybe I just feed him too much hahaha I will have to try and get a shot holding him in the hand like yours for a comparison

I dont think I could feed my wd's roaches. For one.... I have no idea how/where to get them and for two.. I am terrified that they will get loose in my house, those things gross me out more then anything! So no thanks to the roaches whether they are good food or not. lol.

Zip, AWOL is the Dragon of the week photo and is currently terrorizing a small town in the frozen North (although, from the looks of the picture, they are having a rather mild winter! LOL) He is a pretty good-sized dragon. Sometimes pictures can be deceptive. Do you have a weight and/or length of Spike? Avanyu was 24 inches and weighed 220 grams 12/15, but i don't know his true age. He appeared to be about 12 mos. old when I bought him.

Ok I finally got Awol to pose again, this time sitting in my hands so I can compare to the sizes of my 2 year old to your 3 year old. I think I may feed my guy to much hahaha
