Update on Baloo

Sorry to everyone who is on the list and who already got this.But I thought I would let ppl that arent on the list how he is doing. Thanks for understanding =)

I just wanted to let you all know that I decided to remove Baloo from my big tank to my small one. I thought I would try and see how he would act being away from Puff. We got his new home ready yesterday and I have been monitoring him. I read a few places that it might help to put him in a smaller home, away from my bigger dragon (Puff), so I tried it. Given he has been sick, hiding, and not eating on his own yet.(although I do not believe that Puff was mean to him or anything like that) I put him in our small 10 gallon tank. Before anyone freaks about the size of his home.. remember this is just his "hospital room" until he gets better. Also remember he is just a lil tiny right now, so 10 gallon is ok for him right now. Believe it or not he still looks TINY in there! He has a nice pool, feeding dish, a perfect branch for him, a hide, rocks and all that good stuff along with the lights that he needs. Ok.. now for the update...
He is eating very well (still being hand fed). Since he has been in his new home his color has improved. He does not hide nearly as much as he did. he is in his water more. and LOVES his branch!! He still holds his mouth open from time to time, but not nearly as bad as he was. I have decided that another round of his antibiotics is needed and I am going to go to the vet Tuesday to get more.(this will be the second round which I have been told it is not uncommon for them to need a second round.)

I agree with you Christavalentine, I like to include every little detail just in case that one I want to omit is the important one

@abbey,
Please keep in mind that at a young age (length 6-8 STL) I have heard it is common to do a little gapeing. Pooka did a little bit of gapeing for the first few months I had her. I don't think it was URI becuase she cleared up on her own. I think it had something to do with just adjusting to the enviroment, so please run any ideas of medicateing baloo by your vet first as you plan to do.
Also, 10 gallons is what I used for Pooka for quite awhile. It should work nicely for a hospital tank (and a quarantine tank in the future). Keep us updated.

Kiley, I had no idea that small dragons sometimes "gap". I have never been told or read anywhere about that. I am soooo glad you made that point. Thanks!! Blue is about 9 Inches STL now. So it is very possible that is what he is doing. I think I am going to hold off on any more meds. I am going to wait it out a bit and see how he does. After all I do see improvements and as long as it does not get worse I think we will be ok. I agree with always checking with the vet before medicating your dragon. I would not feel comfortable admineristing (sp*) meds without the proper diagnosis and dose that should be used. Thanks again!! ;D

Since I posted my update...
I was at my computer lastnight (which is right next to Baloo's tank) and watched him for a while... he was all over the place, Looking, cocking his head. He definitly seems to be liking it living on his own in his new room. And actually.. I put 3 mealworms in a dish for him inside his tank after I was done feeding him, and a hour later there was only 1 mealworm left!! So that was a great sign!! He ate on his own!!! Woohoo!
It seems he is more active at night, He likes to sleep during the day and out at night. Have any of you had a dragon like that?

Ok.. I just wrote another book... geesh! lol
