has anyone had or heard of anyone getting their wds neutered I know this seems really cruel but I don't want my females to fall pregnant again and I don't want to have to give my male away but I don't have room to house them seperate so I feel that would be my only option

Hiya Dracco, I for one would never neuter/spay my dragons. This is based primarily on the fact that it is a very serious, and potentially fatal, operation for them (or any reptile) and the benefits are far outweighed by the risk. Even if your male was neutered the females would still become gravid every seasona nd lay 1+ clutches a year of in-fertile eggs. I have heard suggestions of just letting the eggs perish as an alternative to letting them hatch. This could easily be done by just putting them in the fridge for the night. Hopefully, others chime in and give there opinions on the subject but I cannot justify the risk to my dragon to stop eggs that are gonna come anyway from coming fertile.

I agree with Pooka. Unless you can have a dragon "hysterectomy" (if it's even feasible) you really haven't accomplished anything except fertility-she'll still lay eggs when she can. It is VERY hard on them, I agree. Agua almost died this year at age: 4 after successfully laying eggs for the past 3 seasons. She appears to be slowly on the mend. Since no vet was available, it is probably a miracle that we could nurse her thorugh it. Had it not been for informatin gathered from all of the people on my various forums I'm sure she would have perished last weekend. My daughter reports that she is slowly gaining strength and has begun to move around her viv again. She laid her 7 eggs, but it cost her!

as I said it would be the last resort at the moment I think I am going to loose zippo she laid one egg yesterday but hasn't laid any since and at the moment she is just lying in the water and doesn't seem to have the strength to move yrying to get her to a vet but it is hard to find one who deals with reptiles I lost dweezle a few months ago after she laid her eggs she never really recovered and just passed away I just can't cope losing another one and felt if the don't get pregnant then I won't have problems like this don't know what to do now will let you know how zippo gets on

Your best bet is to get her to a vet as soon as possible if she is showing signs of being egg bound. Unfortuneatly there is nothing you can do to keep them from laying eggs when they reach sexual maturity, even if all you have is a female she will eventually start laying and lay seasonally weven without a male. Please keep us posted.

I read on one of the sites to use olive oil as a lubricant and soak her in warm water and massage her to try to help the eggs rotate. Try putting some oil in warm water and see if you can help her.

Oh, no. Not another one. We have just been having such bad luck with the dragon community lately. RIP, Zippo and accept my sympathy for your loss, Dracco. I wish we could have been more help.
