Hello Everyone, I bought another WD baby to replace the one that died. This ones name is Puffy II. I had her for 2 weeks and had to take her to the vet yesterday. Her eyes were swollen and glued shut. If I sprayed water on her it would unglue the eyes and she would open them. So the vet has her for the weekend till Tuesday and will call me then. Are the babies particularly sensitive? Lizardllady

Seems as tho most hatchlings I have heard about have either one problem or another. I believe that being 'wild caught' is to blame, and if you got it from a petstore then more then likely it was wild caught. Being wildcaught they have higher chances of stuff going wrong with them, parasites, infections etc. Not only being wildcaught I suppose hatchlings/small juvies are more prone to getting sick due to stress, hiding and not eating, lowers the immune system I would think. Keep us posted on what happens at the Vet.
Dont forget Congrats on your new baby!! You did the right thing by taking him/her to the vet, now you can get your diagnoses, and treatment and help your baby to get well and stay well.

All my animals that I buy are captive bred. Mostly for the healthiness and tameness. Yes I think I got my baby to the vet alot quicker this time, so her chances are alot better.
My Draco is starting to get prettier, he is 10 in., getting a stripe by his eyes and looks like he is getting a reddish throat. So he is a he:)

so ur baby isnt wildcaught huh!! Well that is a plus! But i still think that when they are babies they just have a lower tolerance and are more prone to being ill. Poor lil guys!! Glad to hear ur Draco is doing well.

Lots of good food and a good home, beef them up with the calcium and other nutrients and you get a monster like Awol. When I got him he fit in a container the size of what his worms come in now

Draco is fat but he doesn't eat a whole lot. I'm going to try mealworms and waxworms. Maybe he just needs a little varity.

Sounds like your new baby had an eye infection of sorts. Pooka had a nasty one when we got her and it took 2 weeks to get it cleared up with eye drops and close attention paid to her care.
From the material I have found I would venture to say water dragons are a tough lizard to care for when they are young (under 10 inches Snout to tail) After that they show resilience to a variety of factors they are faced with, but before then they are easy prey to stress and illness. I am sure alot of this has to dow ith the conditions they are kept in when shipped to pet stores and from farsm (don't forget the majority of them are wild caught) I hope things go well for you.

I'm so excited! My vet called me today and said that Puffy is ready to come home! She is opening her eyes, hunting and eating on her own. She didn't know what was wrong with her eyes. Also she asked me if I wanted 2 rescue baby(but a little bit older)Water Dragons she had. I got the OK(lol) from the hubby and I'm going to pick them up at 6:15pm(est). I'm going to have a whole Vision cage of these beauties! I can't wait! And I'm so glad Puffy is ok. I wouldn't been able to open her tiny mouth to feed her.

Congrats on the new family! Tell hubby he is a sweeheart and so are you! Glad to hear new baby is on the mend and Draco is growing.
P.S. Drago has a red/orange throat and is a she. I don't know how much you can rely on most sexing information until they get to 18 mos. and start "showing" off their male features. Avanyu changed almost overnite.

I have Puffy home! She is alert and her eyes aren't swollen shut anymore! The 2 rescues are almost the same size as Draco and beautiful! They all "sniffed" one another with Draco putting his head down to one of the rescues to let it sniff him.i know Dragosmom said that Draco could be a female. Do females do that behavior?
