Kveldulv is acting weird. First off, He has been in the water all day. He never stayed in there for more than 10 minutes, but I ignored that. Then I had a great scare. I saw him under the water and I was scared that he had drowned, but it turns out he was sleeping under the water. Then, when I pulled him out, he started freaking out. He was just running all over the cage. I couldn’t even pick him up. He has always been so friendly. Any ideas or comments?

His nostrils weren't even sticking out. His whole body was under water. It scared me to death.

I guess, I would have been freaking too.
I have never read about their lung capacity so I don't know anything about how long they can stay underwater.
I know Awol will splash around and go under for a second but never seen him stay under.

Do you have any cats or dogs? My last dragon, Sobe, used to go under the water and stay there when he got scared of them. What are the outside surroundings around the cage?

I recall reading somwhere that some dragons have been know to stay under for 28 minutes. I am not sure about the validity of that statment (heck I can't even remember where I read it). I would tend to guess soemthing has stressed him out or frightened him. Water is a 'safe' place for dragons by instinct. Was there any unusual activity within his sight yesterday? People arguing, children rough housing, pets, alot of traffic?

He has come out of hiding and there has been a difference. My Aunt and Uncle are here visiting and my Aunt has been in and out checking them all out. I guess that could of freaked him out.

I have heard dragons can stay underwater nearly a half hr. My guess is he wasn't sleeping part of there hiding is to close their eyes, maybe so whatever they think is after them can't see the eyes reflect in the light. Could be there was a loud noise in the house, seems I remember something about Pooka freaking and it was concluded it was from the noise outside if I'm remembering correctly. Do remember I'm an old chick

Poor Kveldulv. It was probably all of the xtra activity in the household from your guests. The slightest thing can affect them and it can be different for every dragon. The half hour statement is correct and sometimes they rise slightly (like an alligator) to draw more air and then submerge again. They feel "safe" in the water for some reason. Sometimes Drago would spend 2 days in his pool before emerging and then things would be back to normal. Crazy dragons!!
