i have not looked at there site in a long time. but his dragons are nothing special from what i heard. in the past i read they may have more blue to them but not much. in the past i did get to produce some nice bright green waterdragons that had more blue to them over time i have realised any cb waterdragon is noticable nicer and better than the farmed babys. i got out of the greens for a while but am starting to breed them again so i no longer have my real bright ones but i will be working on it again

i read some of your post after i just posted. there is no "morph color" that has changed a waterdragon gfrom green to pure blue or anything however i have worked with green (asian) waterdragons since i was about 13 they were my first reptile and over the years i have bred them and stopped and i have got babys and bred them selectivly to others and there is a noticable differance in a true cb baby that has been cb in captivity and bred back to a wild caught (farmed) waterdragon i have noticed that the colors did brighten up and become more intense green and blue but in no way was it a special morph just nicer looking maybe because it was hatched in captivity it was not ass stressed so it showed its true colors? as to a farmed waterdragon that was in the wild then shiped to a store that may alway be scared because it lived its first months or years in the wild so that what it knows as home? the main thing when getting a waterdragon is making sure you get a healthy one cb is always better and mor exspensive but it is also alot harder to find a true cb green water dragon

Wow! I just found this site. I used to have a green tiger water dragon purchased from Sapphire Dragon Ranch. He was not blue, but had some blue and pink under his chin and was absolutely the most beautiful water dragon I have ever seen. He died almost 4 years ago. My last conversation with Michael Spears was about 3 years ago and he was unable to hatch any water dragons after he moved from Gulfport to Biloxi (or vice-versa). I have a beautiful custom-built lizard cage sitting empty on my back porch and hope to be in the market soon for a water dragon of the quality I bought from Sapphire with bright green and some blue under the chin. If there are any breeders reading my message, please email me at ljsaxon523@yahoo.com. Thanks, Lin

mildabeast. I've read your posts in a few forums criticizing Mike Spears and water dragon morphs. While I do believe you are entitled to your opinion and do have a case against the validity of these morphs, your knowledge about genetic morphisms appears very flawed, so you may want to adjust or at least rethink your tone.
Morphisms can happen in almost any species (*including Green Water Dragons*), but like almost all morphs, they never establish a presence in their species' genes except in captivity. Morphs are simply genetic mutations that find a way to survive through carriers and selective breeding. In the wild morphs usually become victims of prey or fail to mate simply because they stand out and are different from the pack. An easy example would be an albino morph which seems common in many species. Their white appearance and sensitivity to sun light make them easy targets for predators. Coupled with the fact that morphisms occur few and far between, it's a mystery any survive in the wild at all.
In captivity, predators and mating pools can be more easily controlled. Controlling both factors can make it much easier to selectively breed morphs into a dominant presence for the species (at least in captivity). Whether Mike Spears has done this with his line of water dragons I cannot confirm, but to accuse him of being a con-artist because water dragon morphs "cannot" exist is a lie, and poor understanding of genetics.
There are two possible reasons why we fail to see any morphs in water dragons. The first reason has to do with the green skin pigment found in these lizards. Some argue that the pigment is so strong that it's hard to bring out any other color. The second reason has to do with captive breeding itself. 90% of the green water dragons you find in stores are wild caught. Morphs generally occur in long lines of captive bred animals.
