I purchased a water dragon from PETCO about a week and a half ago. By the way this is my second bad experience with PETCO. Anyways, this water dragon (Twig) is 12 inches long and was a little skinny when I bought him, I thought I could fatten him up. WRONG. he hasn't eating anything in the whole time I've had him. Unless he's eating when I'm not looking, and I've been watching closley. I've tried, crickets, mealworms, waxworms, celery, letuce, bananas, lots of different fruits. I ordered some silk worms and im gonna try that. He seems to be getting skinnier, he also has these weird orange bumps/spots all over him. He's not very active he'll jump around alittle bit but mostly just lays there all day. heres some pics of the bumps/spots, lemme know what you all think. thanks --nic

Hi H20Dragon, Twig looks pretty skinny, I hope you can get him/her putting on some weight and eating rigth soon. Its difficult to tell from the photo what exactly the skim blemishes are, however, they look alot like missig or miscolored scales to me. Pooka and Skittle both have similar 'bald' spots on there hide in a few places that look like that. Are they raised? If so maybe they are cricket bites? Regardless I'd recommend, daily soaks in barely lukewarm water. Add some betadine to the water a few minutes before you remove twig, mix it to a ice tea color and let him soak the last few minutes in that. The betadine mix will disinfect them if they are in fact bites. The appetite thing is another sotry. You need to make sure that everything is right enviromentally. Make sure he has enough privacy, his temps are spot on (use 2 thermometers on each area to double check accuracy) and his humidity has to be right. If he still isn't eating after running through that check list its probably a medical condition. Regardless you need to get a fecal exam done at the vet, I'm sure he has parasites and will ned treatment, most dragons do. Best of luck.

Hey, I took twig to the vet, they said he looks very healthy, he's just very skinny. Due to stress of being shipped around and handeled so much he is highly stressed. He weighed in at 18 grams. My other water dragon Scrappy is shorter and weighs 24 grams. They told me to keep twig in a seperate enclosure. (I house them together in a 175 gal. tank) they also said to not use any light in his enclosure only heat, and it should be about 95 F in the hot spot and about 75 F in the cool spot. So I setup a new tank for twig (Only a 10 gal though) Its all I have for now. Hes just been sitting under the 95 F spot for the last couple of hours, hopefully he'll settle down and get comfortable and start eating. I'll keep you posted. thanks --nic

Oh, by the way, the spots on him seem to be going away. I've been soaking him in luke warm water every other day. It seems to be helping. The vet didn't say anything about the spots. Said he looked normal. --nic

I just tossed about 5 crickets in his cage and he ate em all without hesitation. I put 5 more in and he devoured those. Awesome! the first time I've even seen this one eat. Thanx --nic

Poor baby, is he eating yet? I don't know about the skin spots, but he needs to eat! Stress from a new environment may preclude him from eating, but if he is not eating in 4-5 days, I would definitely feed him a slurry of chicken baby food and calcium. With a syringe of course.

I'd keep the soaking going, its great bonding time and healthy for them too. Some dragons stress on it bad though, so just be aware. I'm glad he is eating.
