Hello everyone,
I know it has been a VERY long time since I have posted or replied. I have been extremely busy with a lot of different things... I will fill you in on all that later... But I am having a problem and I am afraid if something doesn't happen soon we will loose our beloved Puff! If you all dont remember me that well... here is a lil background. We have a WaterDragon named Puff. We got Puff a year and a half ago, she is about 24-30 months old now. She has always been the picture perfect healthy Dragon until about a week ago I noticed she was holding her eye closed. At first I thought she was just doing the normal "I dont see you, you dont see me" thing. The next day or two she started to keep it closed and I thought that maybe she got something in it, so I would flush it out while giving her nice long soaks in the tub, she would open it and it did not look infected at all. ... actually it looked completely normal, But as hubby got her out today to let her play in the tub I noticed her eye is VERY swollen. She looks like one of those frogs with buldging eyes. I am really freaked out ... I dont know what is wrong with her. She is barely moving and she is keeping her head leaned to one side. She has got to be in so much pain. She has not ate anything in almost a week!!!!
I know it isnt a substrate issue... we use indoor outdoor carpet.
If anyone can lend any advice please do.
Thanks so very much!!!
Abbey

I also wanted to add..
Her eye is severly swollen... so bad that it is open even tho it is closed.I can see inside her eyelid with her eye being closed... I know this is really bad, this isnt a minor thing. It has got to be like 4 times bigger atleast then what it is suppose to be. When I just had her in the tub she couldnt even walk straight... she was going in circles.. you can see that something is seriously wrong. She wants to just lay limp in your hand. I dont know if they could even save her eye at this point I am thinking it ending up her being put to sleep and thats if she even makes it through the night..... I have so many things running through my head. I feel like I should have known and done soemthing about it sooner... but it was all the sudden swollen huge. It wasnt swollen at all yesterday!!! I would have taken the proper steps if I thought it was something that needed the vets attention. I feel awful. I dont see how her eye got this awful overnight. She has always been SO healthy. I have never had even a minor problem with her.

Obviously, a vet visit is your best bet, but if that is not possible, she needs to have it thoroughly flushed at least twice daily. Human eye-wash or a boric-acid wash would be best. If saline is all you can come up with use it. If you have any old pink-eye meds at your house use them immediately-four times per day. If you don't they should have antibiotic turtle eye drops at your local pet store, available without a prescription. Use those. ANY opthalmic ointment will be better than nothing at this point. Good luck. DM

Thanks so much. I do have some old pink eye meds and I am going to use them immediately. I wouldnt have thought that I could have used them. THANKS!
If you think of anything else that I should do or use please let me know. I still cant even believe this is happening..... I am in shock, I am blown away at how bad this got overnight.

I used the drops.. she did NOT like them AT ALL. I will continue to give her drops as you said and actually on the bottle it even says to give 4x a day.
What I used is called Cortisporin Opthalmic Suspension (was prescribed for pinkeye). I also have another eye drop called Sulfacetamide 10% (was prescribed for my newborn because his tearduct has not opened yet) Which of these do you think would be better to use?
I will keep you posted on how she is. God I pray I can treat this and get her better. Also a call to the vet is going in tomorrow morning first thing. If we would have got home a hour earlier today I would have been able to call today.

Hello Kiley... sorry I dont have good news at all.. Puff passed on Sunday December 18th. I was unable to get her into the Vet as soon as I needed to because of the weekend. We only have 1 reptile Vet around... so it makes it somewhat difficult to get them in. I am still in disbelief that after having her for over a year and half.. she was always the picture perfect dragon, and thrived Wonderfuly.. then all the sudden that happened with her eye. It was so weird. I still would like to know what ine the world it was. My husband spoke with a man at work who has had iguana's since he was a child and he said that Iguanas can get some type of Virus that make their eyes buldge. He said that no type of drops or antibiotics even help it... I dont know if this is what Puff had... either way we all were extremely upset about it. She seriously was a part of our family... we interacted with her daily.. she was as tame as they come I believe... she was just awesome!!! She will be missed for a very very long time. I have some great pictures of her ... I would like to pay tribute to her... I will be making a site for her.

MY dragon did the same thing. . Why didnt you take him to an emergency vet? When dragons get sick to where you can see it it is usally to late. He was full of parasites and after a couple of days the parasites get so bad the infection statrs to show in other places. I just took my to the vet yesterday he is on meds and eye drops not sure if he will make it? But the good news is he is still eating

Wow... thats really sad... something like that happened to one of my first dragons, just above the eye, and partially on the eye a big lump appeared, just like yours it came up over night, and in just a matter or hours she died... I know how you feel to loose a pet that is part of the family. I hope you and your family come through OK. Here’s one of those "in a better place things" puff is in a place without parasites, and endless crickets and super worms fall from the sky, just be glad puff is happy now, and isn’t suffering anymore. hope it helped...
