I just got a chinese water dragon for the first time..He's about 3 1/2 inches with about a 3 inch tail...So he's fairly young. I was just wondering how long it takes for him to warm up to us, and to his surroundings. I also wanted to know if it's normal for them to scratch on the grass and try to jet out of the cage? I think he may just be alittle nervous but I'm just making sure. He's eating fine and seems ok besides the nervousness and lack of trust. Rex is in a happy place!

Im no expert at this, but I have done my research. If hes clawing or rubbing his face against the glass, jsut give him a few days to settle in, but if it gets too serious, you might wnat to consult someone else for more info. About the un-easiness however, give him/her a few days. You have to remember that they are new to you and your family and you are much bigger than them. Make sure they see you put their food and water in when you open the cage. If after awhile you try to pick him/her up, just make sure they see your hand coming from the side. If you take it from above by surprise it may whip its tail thinking your a predator (since they are hunted by birds). Anyway, give him/her a week or two and they should come around. Good luck with your Dragon!

Thanks for your help..I've also noticed that he has done some tail whipping, so hopefully he is just alittle nervous right now and he'll end up being very lovable and trusting!..
