HELP!! I just bought a new bag of 'rain forest' substrate and its covered in tiny white insects! Are these parasites and if so can anyone suggest what to put in with him until tomorrow when I can buy some more? Orville

from what i know, thouse tiny white things are wood mites, and they are harmless to your watter dragon.. and they come with most substrait with wood in it... i found they hach when an area gets very wet and stay's wet for a while. u might want to try some small rocks like u find in a fish tank as the first layer, then put the wood layer on top, so the extra wetness can fall down into the rocks below and not make it sutible for thouse white guys to grow.

Probably safe for the WD but the wood mites will probably drive you nuts. I had the same issues when I used to use bark so I went to carpet. Now I use carrpetr for the cage and a dirt dig box.

Thanks guys! Ive got him on repti turf at the moment but I do prefer the bark so I will have to use your suggestion for draining the water. I've also been told that boiling the bark before you put it in will kill them off so I could try that as well! Orville
