I was just wondering how much people let their Aussies do. I have previously had Beardies and Frillies who came in and out of their open viv as they wanted but not sure about Walter.

From what I have read, many people allow it. some set-up basking areas outside the cage that they can go to if necessary. My only concern with free roaming is possible defecation on surfaces that may be exposed to human contact. The threat of samonellosis lurks and I would hate for one of my children or grandchildren to get sick. They know to wash after handling the dragons, but it's hard to wash everytime you touch something in grandma's house that one of the free roamng dragons may have been on. Mine are confined to the hallway and the couch when loose and I watch carefully for any "accidents". Tripod did poop on the couch during one of her outings and I cleaned the couch with disinfectant.

I allow both of my dragons free roaming time each day. I keep this 'run around time' we call it, confied to my bedroom. Pooka I have stopped supervising and she will roam for an hour or two on her own. Skittle is supervised. I caught Pooka nipping a zipper on a camera case the other day so her unseupervised roamings may be cut short till I can get moved to the new house and have a truly dragon 'proof' room.

i let my aussies roam everyday. when i do it also includes handling them several times as this is part of the 'calming down process' im trying to do. i usually can let my beardies also roam freely without supervision as they arent as fast or anywhere near as skttish as a water dragon

I wish I could, but Schizo is way too small to let him run around in even just my room with how messy it is... If he managed to get in my closet he could even disappear or get inside the walls. (And it's an open closet, no door.) Also, the rest of my family has three fully grown cats, two of which are constantly killing the smaller animals around here, and a huge dog that would probably kill him while trying to figure out what he is, so there's too much of a risk if he manages to get away. >_O
