Depends on what age you want for your dragon and wether it is captive bred or wild caught. I prefer captive bred as they have less chance of disease, nose-rub less, and seem to prefer humans a bit more then even tamed wild caughts. I have found 2 places that sell 'captive bred' water dragons so far. Sapphire dragon ranch and Reeds dragons. I hear excellent things about reeds dragons and have corresponded with the proprieter about some of his sites contents. I have also corresponded with the owner/operaotr of Saphhire Dragons, but have heard not so excellent reviews from others about that establishment. Regardless, for the price I would go with ReedsDragons. As far as an establishment that does wild caught... there are several. reedsdragons.com/www.sapphiredragons.com/index2.html

hello i am reed right now i have around 10 baby green waterdragons CBB right here in Portland OR if anyone buys a waterdragon from me they come with a "birth certificate" this just tells the parents date of birth, breeder (me) first owner (you the buyer) and has a couple spots for other owners (if you get ride of him/her) i recently sold all of my breeder waterdragons and i am now working on starting over i have a female that is around a year old so i wont have any breeding for atleast 6 more months at the time that i feel she is ready to breed i will buy another male and hope for the best. (hope they breed it took me almost a year and a half befor my male tryed breeding and he was an adult when i got him) i belive the female is gravid now but the eggs will not be fertal because she has not been with a male besides when she was a baby reedsdragons.com/images/100_1395.JPG

Like I stated before... there are plenty of places like reptile depot, prehistoric pets, lll repetile, any store chain like pet-co all of them carry wild caught specimens but for captive bred your choices are seriously limited. Just wanted to be sure all were aware of the differences. Nothing breaks my heart more then to go into one of the local stores and see the year or older wild caught dragons they are so skittish (more so then my baby dragon) and many of them already have snout damage. There is a huge difference between wild caught and captive bred, make sure you know what your getting into with each. I have said my peace.

Hiya guys/gals.. I dont want to put down anyones breeding capabilities or anything like that but I was reading this post and had never heard of 'saphire dragons' before.. so I got on the site and checked it out. The pictures of these so called "blue WD's" are a lil odd to me. If you really look at them it almost looks like there is a blue light shining on them to make them look "blue" for these pics. The reason I say this is because if you look, some places they will look 'blue' but if you look in some of the pics that have the wd turning its head the one side the head is NOT blue. Kinda sends a red flag up for me for that site. I just thought I would share my opinion and see what you all think.
I would recommend buying from Reed. He is on this list and the waterdragon mailing list that I am on, from what I have read about him and from him has been nothing but good. He is very knowledgable about the breeding of CWD's, and if I were to look for buying a new WD he would be the first person I would think of.
Good luck in finding your new baby!

Sapphire Dragons are recognized by many top authorities in the water dragon field including Philippe De Vosjoli who mentions them in his most recent printing of General Care and Maintenance of Green Water Dragons, Sailfin Lizards and Basilisks. They are Xanthic which is much like albinoism, except with Xanthic it's an over abundance of blue color or lack of yellow pigment in the skin. The result? Shades of of color more blue in color then green on the parts of the dragon that should be green. There is no difference between a sapphire dragon and a hypo-whatever gecko or beardie, same principle breeding for skin pigments. Now I will admit I had found pictures on the sight that due look a bit questionable and I have seen some that are undeniably genuine but I have seen this trait first hand in my own dragon. Mike (the owner of the site) is also a really nice guy and I have had some contact with him. I am by no means attempting to attack anyones opinion I just would like everyone who questions the authenticy of sapphire dragons to do a bit of research on the subject. Also, keep an eye on you rown dragons, especially after shedding, you might just see hints of the trait he is marketing Pooka has some very blue spots on her after a shed, too bad I have been unable to get my camera to pick them up

I know what you mean pooka. Right after kveldulv sheds, his entire body is blue, but I can't get the camera to pick it up. I read that this shows traits of a Sapphire Dragon. Maybe him and Zelenka will give us atleast one sapphire. *shrugs* Who knows.

I say go for breeding, Zelenka is going to lay eggs fertile or not, might as well supply yourself and others with CB babies. Maybe you will be able to get one who keeps the blue color all the time instead of fadeing back to green a few days after the shed.

I know that when Jade gets very happy and really shows her colors, she is VERY blue. It's the coolest thing to see a blue dragon.

Kveldulv's blue doesn't fade until he starts to shed. When he gets ready to shed, he will turn a green color and then to a grayish color. After shedding, his teal blue body is back.

I do want to have Zelenka lay some fertile eggs. They mated once, but I don't think it took. This happened like last month and she isn't acting like she is gravid. After that day though, they haven't mated since.
