I am in the process of building a new enclosure for my water dragon. It is going to be 4’x5’x3’. It is going to be made out of melamine and have sliding plexi glass doors in the front. My question is what type of ventilation will be necessary for an enclosure of this size? Also what type of lighting/heating should I use? I was thinking about using a Flucker’s Sun-glow to provide the proper UVB rays that they need and an incandescent bulb for the basking area. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I used a standard reptile enclosure fan in my viv and I let it run 24/7. My enclosure is similar in size (a little smaller) and I have the equipment I use listed on my website. For a viv that size, I would recommend a mercury vapor set-up for uvb. www.reptileuv.com has a lot of information. The internally ballasted bulbs produce heat; the externally ballasted do not. I would make my decision on which to use first as it will impact your heating choice. Any incandescent light can be used for a basking spot. I use a 200 watt GE bulb from Lowes. I have a problem keeping my viv at the required temps during the winter months and have 160 watt Mega-Ray MV bulb, a 250 watt and 100 watt ceramic emitter, along with 200 watt, 150 watt and 100 watt basking spots. During the summer I turn off 2 of the basking spots that are on my light bar. If you are interested, my viv and equipment can be viewed at: www.geocities.com/dianedfisher
