This morning when I went in to feed all the iguanas in the iggy room, I had a surprise waiting for me...
Calisto over night laid 19 eggs!! I had been wondering if she would become gravid any time soon... I had seperated Lucky and Calisto from one another when Lucky appeared to be entering breeding season... When I did this the reaction was an overwhelming sense of depression in the room... Both for Lucky and Calisto... She turned black for days and he stopped turning orange and refused to eat... Then Calisto escaped the closet and was out in the room where Lucky free roamed and all was happy again... So deciding to just go with monitoring the two adults I allowed them to hang out together again... This time just leaving the closet open so they could come and go as they liked... (I understand the consensus of not allowing iguanas to live with one another and each situation is very different, this just happens to work for my two) So anyway Lucky has days where he is really orange and others when he looks like any other iguana, but both were happy and eating like pigs! I watched for marks or any signs of mating nothing came about... Even in the past month I did examine Calisto looking for changes like getting bigger and lack of appetite there really were no signs of her being gravid... She would have a day every now and again where she was a bit more aggressive which is very very out of character for her but other than that no marked changes...
Anyway last night she laid 19 eggs... I believe she is finished with the egg laying as her sides are very very skinny... She has already taken up eating like a pig again and seems to be doing really well... So I took some pictures of her, Lucky and the eggs to share... Lucky appears to once again be feeling very protective of Calisto as you can see in some of the pics...
you can see how skinny her sides are now...
