I jus got a baby iggy today from my boyfriends friend and she is in kinda bad shape, she has mites and of course i am treating them, and i tihnk she is missing a finger, she is missing half her tail and she has something wrong with her skin where it folds like by her thighs n arms n stuff. Brown crusty hard like skin, not normal dry or shedding skin, and under her tail is the same, it almost looks like her skin is drying up all the way to the bone. Well she did have a brother with her and the brother died (before i got Nemo my iggy) and i guess the brother ate like crazy but started losing fingers and has really dry ptachy brown skin n eventually died.... I'm scared this might be happening to Nemo, as soon as i can get pix i will, does ne one know wuts going on? or eer seen this happen before?

Hi Emi, your best bet is to hit Patricks forum for that info. We have igg owners like Elizabeth here but traffic is not real heavy. You should be able to get the help for nemo you need here patricksiguana.proboards23.com/index.cgi

Thank you everyone! i found out what is wrong with my baby Nemo. I took her to be checked out and i was told the mites caused all of this. They were basicly just sucking the life outta her. Her tail, claws, side, n legs r damaged a bit but i was told they should heal except the claws that are already missing. Nemo also has now moved in with my CWD Petri and they are now best friend. They even sleep together on there wood perches. Thanx again for everyones help, i saved all the pages for future refernece. ;D

I don't think that is a rude comment with their temperments housing different breeds together is never really a good idea... Even most iguana owners would discourage from iguanas living together in an enclosure... There are always exceptions, but my guess would be that there will be a possability of aggression as the iguana gets larger since once it starts to heal it's skin etc it will not take long for the baby ig to out grow even an adult cWD...
I am glad to hear that you found out the source of the problem and hope you are able to get it corrected easily enough... Just remember that with an iguana when they lose their tail and I am sure other body damage they have a tendency to put a lot of their growing strength into regeneration before they start to get larger... Best of luck!!

I figured I would end up having atleast 1 person say that it was such a bad idea for me to house my CWD n Iggy together. But its not like I just with no thought or research put them together. I went n talked to a few ppl i know who know basicly everything about reptiles. I got the ok to put them together after he had seen them both. Plus they get along great. They even sleep next to each other like they have known each other forever. I watch them for hours everyday n make sure nothing happens. If for some reason one shows aggression then yes of course i whould seperate them. But that hasnt happened yet and no one really can honestly say that they WILL fight or something. Plus not everything ppl read or w/e is always true. You can find so much lies about reptiles. How do you even know whats true unless you went to school for and even doing that how do you honestly know that everything you learned is a true fact? I'm not trying to be mean or argue with ne one. I'm just expressing my opinion. Pooka even knows how much i care about my reptiles and how i would NEVER do anything to put them in danger and he also knows about the ppl i trust in to tell me the truth with my reptiles.

exactly as long as you are watching and monitoring their behaviors it's all fine... I know I have my own pair that is the exception to the rule themselves the two adult iguanas that live together... so as long as they are getting along together and the iguana is not eating the same diet (ie the protein) then hey more power to you and best of luck on it all!! ;D my opinion wasn't just from reading it was from seeing what an iguana can do to another reptile if in the mood not to get along, so as a responsible reptile owner myself it is also necessary to point out the potential hazard of housing an iggy with other species or even with another iggy... I however have a living example of the exception to the rule so just as I know what I am doing is in their best interest I certainly trust you to know what you are doing is in your reptile's best interest...

Its okay ace13. Plus just by reading someones words you can't really get to know someone so its okay. But yes i do love my reptiles with all my heart. Just as much as i love my 2 cats my dog and my salt water fish tank. My bearded dragon and my iggy i both basicly rescued. The beared dragon was fed cat food its whole life, never taken out of it tank to be handled and never had its tank cleaned... It had heat rocks all on the bottom of her tank. She had burns n bruised n was pretty badly messed up. I took her away form the lady but i still had at pay 85 dollar but whats 85 dollar to helping an animal. and the iggy wasnt treated to well either. as you can tell from my first post about her. The owner even told me they didnt know ne thing about iggy's n just bought 2.... but im working with both, the iggy is VERY scared and the beared draogn is EXTREMELY mean. She has bit me before n drew blood. But im triyng to tame her dispite my family n friends telling me to get rid of her since she is mean. I know the beared dragon has nothing to do with the iggy forum but i thought i wud just let you know how much i really care and would do ne thing for my animals.

Exactly Elizabeth I have never heard it put so well ;D fishing4dragons: I have talked to you about this before as long as you are aware of the hazards and monitor them more power to you, you may very well show plenty of evidence that previous conceptions of cross species co-habitation are off somewhat, others certainly have. Keep us posted @ace: Don't sweat it, you only had the best interest of the animals in mind and if Fishing had no idea about them being housed togther and potential risks it could pose you would have presented very important info about that. It'll take time to get a feel for the various experience levels in this community all you can do is share your knowledge and experience and hope for the best.

Me I do not think it is a Good Idea but I have heard it done on very rear occasions but it did not last for long! So Good Luck I hope it works out for you!
Ps Iguana most of the time like to be alone and not in the company of another lizard!!!

thanx patrick. They are still getting along, they like to sleep together. I even got pictures of nemo (iggy) sleeping on petri (CWD) it was so cute. if they arent like that they are like basicly side by side. During the day they are even together alot besides when i feed petri her worms or when petri takes a swim. But things are going good. And i hope things stay the same. I'm gonna be moving in a few months n building a bigger enclosure then what they have now. Right now they are in my closet which is pretty big.... but i want to build a walk in enclosure for ez cleaning and more room for when nemo grows up and if she wants to be alone that she can be.
