Pinkie feedings - faint of heart beware!!!

Ok, I started feeding my dragons pinkies. And I am 20 year old tom boy (and I refuse to grow up!!!), so I think its frickin awesome watching the dragons attack. Here are some pics.

First off, here is a pic of a pinkie incase someone hasn't ever seen them before (I hadn't ever seen one until I bought them). They are new born mice, they can't even open their eyes yet.


This is Kai eating a fuzzy and then a pinkie. It was super funny because it was the first time Kai ever saw a fuzzy. So I put the fuzzy down and he is staring at it and tilting his head going "WTF? What is that? Is it real?" But then the mouse stopped moving and he was like "Ok, I guess it wasn't real." So I gave the mouse a little tap to get him goin again and then Kai said "Oh oh oh! It's real! It's mine! BACK OFF!" Then after the fuzzy he got a small pinkie. He looks like a dog chewing on a bone... only he's a lizard and its actually a mouse.



This is Oscar. At first she didn't want anything to do with the mouse. I tried everything. I rubbed it on her face, I put it on her foot, I made it wiggle around, and she still didn't want it. So then I brought out Dori, whom I knew wouldn't eat the pinkie cause she is picky, but I thought it would give Oscar some "compitition" and she would hurry up and grab it. She still didn't go for that though. So then I put out a different pinkie that was grey, and she immidiately attacked and followed it up with the 2nd pinkie!!! Both were gone in less than 30 seconds!!!



I may just be sick, but I thought this was totally awesome. I fed them on a table to get good pics, but I think next time I will get the fuzzies (they run more) and put them and the dragons in the bathtub. Might get some more movement and get to see them "hunt" a little bit more.

Well either your very fast with the button clicking or your dragons are slow eaters hehehe Pinkie of Fuzzie never lasts that long to get that many good pictures at once with Awol

Great pictures though.

Even when Awol comes right across the whole tank there is not alot to the hunt part... he comes in fast and hammers hard and it is all over.

Don't bother getting hoppers for them yet either, I don't think your dragons are big enough for them yet as they are at a stage where their eyes are open and go at top speeds. A young charging dragon might not stop when it is about ro hit something or fall of something, plus hoppers might bite back ( they don't get a chance with Awol if he is on the attack.
Had one that lived with him for 2 days and then just disappeared hehehe

Man I am glad my iguanas don't eat those things!! Have to admit though, cool pictures!! ;D

Great pics!
BUT I wouldnt feed too many of those, they are very high in fat and arent the easiest thing to digest, so be very careful!
And if anything, I would just stick with the small pinkies...

Yea, I was very fast with the button clicking. The fuzzy took Kai a while because he kept shaking it around and he had 6 people staring at him screaming and laughing, so he paused and was contemplating on whether or not he should finish or run away.

I wouldn't try anything bigger than the fuzzies. I picked out the smallest fuzzy they had that would run around like a spaz. And then I had him follow up the fuzzy with the smallest pinky.

I am actually surprised Oscar ate 2 pinkies. I thought it was close to her laying eggs again and she wouldn't eat, but I guess I got a while before she lays another clutch.

As for feeding them pinkies often, I have mixed feelings. I remember reading that pinkies should only be offered once every other month because of the same reason that you say Steven. But then I have been on forums and people have been talking about feeding their dragons pinkies once a week. So that prompted me to go back and do some more research. I could not find anything saying pinkies shouldn't be offered that often. In fact, I read that 40% of their diet should be prey - like the pinkies. Now I am not going to feed them pinkies often because they are a little expensive (dollar a mouse, a little over a dollar for the fuzzy). So maybe once a month. I would also worry too much about how they digest it. But since Oscar is in need of calcium and some fattening up since she is laying eggs, I thought this would be perfect for her. Now Kai, I am just trying to get him to be huge... I am jealous of DaremoAlpha's Awol, that is a huge lizard right there.

I just picked him up 70 more silkworms and 15 butterworms for trial.

No kidding hehehe I just dropped 55 bucks for food and food for the food and about 20 buck for food trays and trays for the foods food. So all in all it is time to just sit back and contemplate whats for supper hahahaha

Whoa $55 on food... i spend about $30 every 2 weeks, which is 4 boxes of crickets about (250 crickets) and 2 boxes of woodies (about 70) and every second week i get a 10gram container of mealworms... about 20-30 in there... how long should it be before
1) Bearded Dragons
2) AWD's
3) Ridge-tail monitors... A.K.A the spiny-tail monitor
eat pinkies.. << sorry i forgot to mention that detail

Yea well this time around Awol got spoiled and was treated to Butterworms at $5 bucks for 15, 70 silkies for $20, $30 for 1 pound of silkie chow.
Then there is his weekly 4 fuzzies at I think $1.05 each.
Plus all his other stuff I never really notice prices on like 100 supers every 2-3 weeks and wax worms and goldfish.

He eats better than I do I think LOL relativly speaking anyway
