How much does it cost to raise about 20 hatchlings for 2-3months I can get about 2000 small crix for about $80 (australian). Is this cheap? usually its about $5 for a box of about 50.

I recommend you buy a bunch of adult crickets then breed them. You will save a ton of money. I don’t know how much Australian money is worth compared to is money but I get 1000 for $13.

One more thing if you house them I recommend you put them in two or three different cages. Make sure that you feed all of them allot or they will start eating each other’s tails and feet.

I know this should probably be in the feeder forum, but since we're on the subject, how do you breed them? I've read many articles on it and people say that it is rather easy, but it seems time consuming and difficult? could you give me a run down on this? thanks

This is a simple care sheet that I made
1: First you need a container (10-20 gallon container)
2: Get some toilet or paper towel rolls (for the crix to hide in)
3: Buy 100 or more adult crix (females can lay up to 500 eggs each)
4: Put a little container of moist moss (to lay the eggs in and drink)
5: Take the moss out and put it in another container (spray every other day or enough to keep moss wet)
6: Wait about 2 weeks (after 2 weeks you will see the little white pin heads)
7: Crickets grow very fast feed the lettuce and fish food (life span 4-6 weeks)
Let me know If you still have any questions

just a couple more questions 1. What are the dimensions of a cage that is 10-20 gallons, being an Australian, we use a different metric system and i am unfamiliar with gallons 2. After how long should i take out the container full of moss 3. Should i replave the moss container with another one after i have taken the other one out 4. Will i only need 2 containers Thanks for the help

1. I will get back to you with the dimensions. A kitty litter pan should work for the crix but just make sure it is tall enough so they can’t jump out
2. I take it out every 4 days.
3. You should If you want as many crickets as you can
4. It depends on if you are going to breed the crix none stop

Heya guys A 10 gallons should be fine. A 10 gallon aquarium comes out at about 20 inches long 10 inches high and 10 wide (500mm x250mmx 250mm or thereabouts I beleive)

I do breed them, When you get the routine down you should get a few thousand a week depending on how much adults you have. They are very easy to breed.

It depends on how big the smaller tank is. If you do house them in a smaller cage put a bunch of toilet paper roles or something in their cage for them to hide in.

That would be fine for 50 just give them some hiding places.
