I have heard that a sudden fright or excessive handleing can cause a leopard gecko to drop its tale, is this true? I was thinking about getting a friend a setup with a leo as she is interested in getting one. But, she likes to handle my Dragon alot so I do not know if a leo is right for her.

It is their defence against preditors. In the beginning, you need to be very gentle with Leo's. For at least a week or two, when you feed them, you place your hand in the enclosure & let them sniff & lick you & become familiar. It is also a good bonding tool to sit by the enslosure & softly talk to them. This reasures them that you are gentle. After some time, (when they come to you) they will crawl onto your hand & gently & slowly raise your hand up to the top of the enclosure & talk to them & pet them softly. NEVER pick them up by their tail! You will get to the point, that when you put your hand in the enclosure, they will run onto your hand, up your arm & onto your shoulder & maybe the top of your head!! Sounds funny, but true!!
So if your friend can go slow, I think they would make an awsome companion!!!

Yes and if you try pick them up and they run away and you grab their tail they will also drop it.
