My albino Leo, joon hasn't opened her eyes since Friday. (at least that's when I noticed her walking around the enclosure with her eye's closed) I thought maybe she was having trouble shedding her head, so I gave her a bath & we got the shed off of her head, but she still wouldn't open her eyes. I gently used a Q-tip & tried to lift her upper lid, but it was like it was stuck. She is still eating & soaking in her tub, but her eyes are closed. Someone on another forum, suggested mineral oil......What do you think? Also, any idea's what caused this?
Oh, and before, I get verbally abused for not taking her to the vet, we have had winter storm warnings & TERRIBLE snow & wind & the roads have been closed.....I plan to take her as soon as I can. I live in the middle of no-where & not sure when our lane will be cleared......

I am sorry to hear joon is having problems. I suppose I would keep trying to use the wet q-tip to work them open. It is certainly a good sign she is still eating and soaking. Could it be retained eye caps? If thats the case I suppose humidity and soaking would help as the eye cap is just a clear scale over the eye that should come off right before or with the shed (at least in a water dragon and ig it is supposed to) I hope the weather conditions allow you to get her into a vet before too long in case she stops eating. Let us know how things turn out.

TEXTI've been both very busy & away, sorry for not keeping up with the forum.
During those first few days, even tho I was unable to get joon to the vet, I called the vet a couple time & did as instructed. The vet could not determine what was wrong without seeing joon, but just gave basic instruction. Since then, joon has visited the vet twice & has one eye open most of the time & we are still working on the second. What the vet believes happened was that due to the stress of (1st) benny chasing & biting her and then (2nd) seperating the two of them, that in the middle of a shed, joon "closed" her eyes. (something that Leo's will do if stressed-"don't look & it will go away") anyway, since joon was shedding & closed her eyes, the retnia (Leo's shed their retnia) did not shed properly & stayed attached. Through soaking & "gentle" massage, we are working on them & hoping it's not too late.
I'll try to keep you better posted.
I appreciate the concern!TEXT

Zekey- thats great news!! I'm so glad shes ok! I guess it was the shedding thing, but just wondering...do you keep her on sand? Cause at first when you didnt know what it was, I thought maybe you had her on a sandy substrate and it was dusty and irritated her eyes, but if you dont keep her on sand then that prob. wont be the case, lol... Well, I'm glad shes ok!

Once I got her to the vet, we discovered it was as we thought. She had closed her eyes due to stress, then when she shed, her retnia did not shed properly & she had LOTS of build up. She has been undergoing soaks & gentle eye massage & eye drops 2-3 x's per day. One day, I opened her enclosure for soak time & she looked up at me with 2 big beautiful eyes!!! I was sooo happy & relieved. She is still getting the eye drops daily for awhile. Thanks again everyone!
