Heya all,
I must admit I had my doubts... Pooka has been some what of a fussy eater. Combined, she will eat in 2 feedings of 10 crickets for a total of 20+ crickets on some days. However would rather stave then eat a meal worms or an earth worms. (admitted she will sometimes eat mealworms but not often)
Well, I went to the pet store this weekend and grabbed a container of waxworms along with my crickets, I figured what the heck worst case she won't eat them and I'll have to chaulk up the lose of $4. Boy was I wrong. I added about 5 crikcets in a container with 1 wax worm and put it in her cage. She didn't hesitate she was in the bowl with a cricket in her mouth by the time I had my hand out of the cage. Next item aftre the initial cricket was too my suprise the waxwomr which she made shortwork of despite its apparent large size. She managed to finish off all the crickets and 2 more waxwomrs I offered at the end of the meal.
I have to admit I was suprised that a somewhat picky eater like pooka was so quick to eat the wax worms.
Sunday was even better because I added 3 mealworms and 1 wax worm to a bowl and she wiped the whole thing out ;D I wonder how long she will eat mealies with an occasioanl waxworm thrown in before she catches on that they are 2 different worms? Anyway I was just excited she tryed new food and wanted to share it. I'll probably throw her a few in next weekend as well. I know they can sometimes go off feed on a hunger strike to get waxworms so I don't want to offer them too her all the time.
