I bought a self-ballasted mercury vapor flood lamp (160 watt) for Mr. Lizard. Has anyone had experience with these lamps?
It just worries me that there are so many warnings on the box. It's an ESU Reptile brand.
Please help. Thanks.

I have never used the ESU brands MV bulb but I use Mega Ray Brand bulbs (I think they are also called Westron brand) that are self ballasted for my Skink, Uro, and Iguana. Heed the warnings, these lights produce high levels of UVB (much stronger then a tube light) and lots of heat. The UVB can sunburn the reptile and the heat can dehydrate or over heat them as well so they are in place for good reason. Setup properly a MV is the best source of lighting out there next to the sun though.
