Zilla

I'd like to tell you about Zilla (short for Godzilla). Zilla is a male Chinese Water Dragon approximately 2-1/2 years old. I adopted him from someone who could no longer care for him on July 3, 2004. He has snout
damage from when he use to bang and rub the glass. He also has a couple of missing spikes and the tips of two of his toes are missing from retained sheds. It took me almost 2 weeks to get all the old skin off of him.
This picture was taken back in July. He has already grown another half an inch since then and has become a chubby guy. He's very sweet and loves to
be held. He likes to sit on the back of the couch and flick my head with his tail everytime I'm not looking. He is going to be moving into a much roomier
viv by the end of November when his sliding glass doors are installed. The inside dimensions are 4'H x 5'6'L x 3'6"D, it has 2 large branches (6' and 5' long), ferns and flowers (fake), radiant heat panel, Mega-Ray EB
(for UVB), and a 16 gallon pool for his swimming pleasures.

I'm not questioning, but rather wondering.....if he is a 2 1/2 year old male, where is his crest?

Other than that, his coloring is beautiful!

Stunning water dragon for a rescue. You did a great job in bringing him back to health. I agree that he had a leprechaun on his shoulder when he found you!

I didn't even think about that untill you posted about it... From the angle of the camera it may be obscured a bit by his head?

Yes it does look like that. I bet if you took the picture from a different angle you would see the crest better.

Sorry I'm late replying but I'll do it all in one post. Yes, the pic doesn't catch his crest very well. It's not as big as others that I have seen. He is definetly male though. The other people had him for a "couple" of years so the vet and I are guessing he's about 2-1/2 - 3 years old.

I drove to MA to get him (I live in CT). Luckily the people who had him drove half way to meet me otherwise I would have had to go all the way to NH. I'm thinking about getting into rescues. The only difference is after getting them back to health I would like to adopt them out to responsible owners. Zilla is a keeper though. I never had any other intentions other than keeping him. He's just too sweet.

He's moving into a larger viv next week. His new viv is 6'Tx5'5"Lx3'3"D. He has a couple large logs (5' and 6'), a Mega-Ray for UVB, a Radiant Heat Panel, 16 gal. pond that I got at Home Depot (heavy duty plastic made for mixing cement but hey, only $11), a fluval 404 filter, an ultrasonic humidifier piped into the viv, vines, flowers, and fake ferns for hiding, and one boston fern that hangs from the top just because I like it. ;D I'll be sure to post pics when Zilla is settled into his new "mansion".
