Hi, i finally got my 2 water dragons today i picked the two that looked the most active and alert, one which was sooo active he escaped when we tried to get him and ran out of the shop onto the road we got him tho. Just a couple more questions now that i have them 1. They seem very petrified of me or when anyone comes close to the tank. Is that just stress or just getting used to their new home. when i got my beardies they were fine right from the word go 2. They havent touched their veggies or crix so i took them out at the end of the nite. i know this is normal for them not to eat in the first few days, but when should they start eating? i will be posting pics of them as soon as i get the digital camera off of my mum

;D ;DSpike, most people will give their dragons a few days to "settle" in before they handle them much. Handle them only to try to feed them for about the first week. You will find that even changing things around in their cage may stress them-even after you've had them for years! Offer them food, morning and evening, and get them used to your appearance. No quick hand movements and try to crouch so that you are not "towering" over them. If they are not used to hand feeding let the food move in a small bowl and see if they'll go for it. Remember your calcium powder! So glad that you finally got your WD. I know that you have been diligent in setting up your viv and I know that these WD have found a wonderful owner! It may take 2 or 3 days before they get hungry enough to overcome their stress and eat! ;D

Yes they need a couple of days to get used to their new home. Just drop about 80 small crickets in and leave them alone for a few days. What kind of water dragon did you get?

i got 2 Eastern (Australian) water dragons. the lady at the pet shop said they were from last season and if she had too have a guess at age she said about 8 months. They are about 8-9 cm from snout to vent and with thier tail they are about.. roughly 20cm.
I have offered them food and will take out whatever live food they did not eat at the end of the day. if they havent settled in a couple of more days i will post another msg ;D, thanks for the suggestions so far

If they are like their Chinese cousins they won't eat many, if any, veggies. Mine will not eat any!

If you go to the photo gallery there is a pic of thier viv. I use that fake grass (repti carpet) stuff. i think it is an excellent substrate

I know it has only beem 4 days, but they dont seem to be settling down, now whenever i walk in my room they run into their stump and hide. Are all AWD's like this for their whole life or is it just when you get them or just as juvies??

The eating should only come back in the first week or two... the hideing from you and being skittish is gonna gof on for a few weeks. It took constant handleing of Pooka after week 2 of haveing her to get her used to us. Now she will do the shoulder perch without much problem (although if something catches her attention she will run down the arm bail off to investigate). To my understanding AWDs are less skittish when they start to mature. Maybe give them the rest of the week then start handleing them individually for 15-20 minutes a day in a safe enclosed room where they cannot get wedged underneath anything if they run.

What Pooka just said is what I was just going to say. Spike is your personalized picture of your AWD?

Mine used to hide in their little cave thing when I entered the room, but they got used to me being around so I'm pretty sure your's will too.
